                          Pedagogic Journey

                 Flensburg, May 5th-10th, 2017

Don’t tell me how educated you are, tell me how much you travelled.”

It is not just by coincidence we’ve chosen this aphorism: is Education a journey, isn’t it?

Asilo nel Bosco and Treecanopy welcome you to second edition of “Pedagogic Journey”. Next stop is Flensburg (Germany), where the first German Forest Kindergarten was settled.

Petra Jager will share her experience leading us through the dream, the challenge and finally the success of the Forest Kindergarten.

Paolo Mai will tell us how he managed to turn “Asilo nel Bosco” in Rome (Italy) in a beautiful reality.

Also, visit and observation at Beach Kindergarten Falshöft, meeting with some parents and some other stimulant activities which will hopefully make this event an unique opportunity to explore the Outdoor Education.

All together, we will share with participants the most broad and exhaustive idea of Outdoor Education from all perspectives: children, parents, educators, community, society, institutions.

For further information, enrollment and any possibile question, please email to: team@treecanopy.eu or call +39 335 5357647 or +356 77050443 (Lorenzo).

We look forward to see you in Flensburg!

Welcome 2017

Be that as it may, we are just being cast into 2017.

There is no reason why this year should be different from the previous one unless we actually do something to make the changes happening.

Just let’s us all think about it and not just wait for the scroll of the calendar’s page.

May we all have the courage to face our own fears and not walk away from them.

May we all open our mind so to be receptive on new ideas and thoughts

May we all come together and understand that our destiny is in our hands

Good luck

Lorenzo

Ecco come ci vogliono

murales-malta

Ci vogliono impotenti; ci vogliono rabbiosi e frustrati.

Ecco come ci vogliono.

“First they came…..”

img_20150823_194157“In 2014, they found that about 90 individuals held half of total world wealth. In 2015, the number was reduced to 62. Meanwhile perhaps 5 million children are dying of starvation every year – more than 500 an hour, a tragedy that could easily be remedied by available resources. Among the developed (OECD) societies, inequality is particularly prominent in the Anglophone countries, with the US well in the lead. Despite its unique advantages, by most measures of poverty and social justice the US ranks with the poorest OECD countries, alongside of Greece, Mexico, Turkey, facts heightened by lavish displays of concentrated wealth. The disparities have increased since the latest crash, with some 90% of growth going to 1% of the population. As widely reported, the global rich now live in a different world from the general population.” This is an excerpt taken from an interview to Noam Chomsky few months ago (worth reading, as usual).

Forget about election result; as far as I am concerned, Trump and Clinton are just differently portraying a decadent, rotten, corrupted society (yes I know that most of you would sentence me to death for this statement, however I still pretend to be in a free world and make my statement). Yet, voters haven’t realised it and continue squabbling each other pretending to play the “right and wrong” or “right and left” game.
Therefore, without moralize any further on this election result, making obvious comments (which I gladly preserve and hold for myself), I go straight to the point: when this all will be enough? When 62 individuals holding half of the world wealth will finally ring a bell in our consciences? Should the 5.000.000 (FIVEMILLIONS) children dying of starvation every year become fifty or five hundreds before we all get really pissed off about this inequality; the sooner we all realise one solid and indisputable reality, the better: the bubble we are living into, is going to blast or implode, if you wish. It might not be happening in our lifetime, we might not see devastations and effects that it will cause (which are already here, by the way), however our next, very next generations will certainly face it; or we may just turn around and say, as some people do “well, everybody’s going to die, eventually. So be it”.
When is enough?
Perhaps when, God forbid, something really dreadful will happen to us, then we will wake up and will make our own choices; be that as it may, the poem of Martin Niemoller (which I love to report hereunder) might give us a possible perspective.
“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me”

Throw off bowline

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed from the things that you didn’t do than the ones that you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twainthe cliff

It does seem quite simple, doesn’t it? It is exciting, fascinating and inspirational, for sure.
Pretty sure that at least once in our life this quote has come across our mind, even just as simple light before our eyes.

It is challenging and it requires some “ingredients” which in my humble opinion are (most importantly) the followings:

1. guts and hardihood. Forget about sense of certainty and sureness; be prepared to have your knees and legs shaking, especially at the very beginning of the journey. Sense of excitement goes along with “Is it really the right thing for me?”. Tell you more: if you’re not feeling like this, you haven’t actually threw off (yet) the bowlines and you are still in your safe harbor

2. Consciousness and awareness that no matter how strong and solid are our efforts to control our life, there’ll always be a very high and great deal of uncertainity and unexpected events that will affect your life and destiny

3. Just as true as the point above, our life is predominantly decided by us, by our deeds and behaviour.

4. This is fundamental: your partner in life. If you are alone, then it will be everything on you; however if you’re sharing your life with a partner, well this turns to be a great benchmark as to how you really want to embrace a change.

Of course, this is far to be an exhaustive and complete list; it worked (actually, it is still in progress) for me, however.

Financial situation, offspring, relatives, health; all of these are also other factors that soon or later, for better for worse, will come into and will play their role in your choice.

The payback of this? Incommensurable, enormous, exciting. Just as the efforts that it requires.

Good luck!

Earth without humans

the cliff

“You want to get on the mafia? Go and get the lawyers of the mafia…without complaisant, corrupted lawyers, the only way that mafia has to launder their money is in a laundry” (quote from “The Firm” 1993).

You want to change the way that politicians run public goods and administrate society? Go and get on the lobbies, shut them out; without lobbies paying their luxury superfluous wages, politicians as they are today will disappear. There a very few exceptions in the entire world, being Pepe Mujica one of these and here you may want to listen his awesome speech in Brasil , who really care about the people and the human society; as to the rest of   politicians today they are just an important layer of the manipulation and control pyramid ruled by the few hundred most powerful persons in the world. Meaningless, arrogant, dumb, dishonest puppets: this what the politicians are, as simple as that.

Yes, I am a stupid, dupe, dumb and whatever you like conspiracy’s fan. I admit it.

So, now that I have cleared the air and made my outing, I repeat my point: you want to get rid of the class and type of politicians? Stop feeding the lobbies.

Otherwise you will continue to be deceived and juggled (and juggle others in turn) by the different stories told:

“Choose the less worse”, “Politician must compromise, sometime”, “for better or worse, we eventually have someone leading our country”, “Right or left, Republican or Democrats”…Enough? Add more, if you like.

You really want to get rid of this class of politician? Then stop blaming that you don’t have possibilities or time enough to pursue the challenge, because if you don’t have time for caring about the world in which you live, what on earth you time is worth for? Whatever you have: money, time, resources, competencies, attitude…. whatever you can put on the table for the sake of a more fair, equitable, clean, just, compassionate, sustainable Earth, do put it. Or else, don’t bother others with your speeches and excuses like “There is very little I can do, therefore I do nothing”. Because at the end that what’s happening, leaving thus the room to the lobbies and ruling power to do their own dirty business on our lives. Pollution, environmental disaster, junk and poisoned food, social disequality it all on us. It might take time, it might not be simple, but a change is possible.

Look around and see how many good people entrust and dedicate their acts and deeds for the sake of good principle and values.

Otherwise, keep on enjoying your last $900 cell phone built in the middle of somewhere by desperate children paid 1$ a day, if not less; or keep on eating junk food coming from the other side of the globe polluting earth with emission of the truck used to move it; and don’t forget to enjoy great program at TV which tell you what to wear, what to eat, how to cook and what to vote; most importantly, do hate profoundly the immigrants and the “diverse”: they are the ones that are destroying your beloved country; never miss your religion ceremony, in whatever form or shape it comes: otherwise you may run into severe risk of conscience awakening; finally, never miss the opportunity to please us with your great, wise, learned post on social as to how the society is collapsing: we do need it.

Take a leap

murales-maltaTake a leap, you never know what is next. This is what this picture said to me when I firstly saw it.

I was impressed positively by the workmanship, however what really caught me was the question: “Where is he going?”. Actually, the guy breaking the wall and jumping into, is going somewhere: if you go to Sapri (Italy), you will find the answer. Here you can see it

This is quite a famous murales and it’s called “Mediterranean tunnel”, by MTO meant to be a reminder, if not a admonition, about the great issue of the immigration.

It would be far too ambitious from my side describe and deepen here the issue at core: too many implications, too many debates going on. Unfortunately, just one cause: greediness for power, yearning for money. Immigration phenomena brings an immense amount of money to organized crimes around the world; politicians use this as powerful weapon to keep mass distracted from the heart of the matters. Furthemore, immigration along with some other manipulative argument, serve to the “divide et impera” strategy for the people: how much easier is to blame an immigrant for crimes, social disequality or economic constraints, making and feeding within the society a neverending match where anybody fight ach other or just support one or other theory. We all see this, just if we stop for a while and look at the events in the most disillusioned manner possible.

Back in the centuries, we have evidence that immigration was perceived and portraited according to what most patronize the current ruling elite. Indians in the America where native in the land while the immigrants at the time, were the ancestors of who is now blaming in the most fierce manner the immigrants. Yet, Indians populations over the years where showed as being the “bad guys”, the invaders, the killers and so forth. The history is written by the winners; that’s approximately the way it sounds.

Take a moment to to detach yourself from the emotion of the moment and from what media tells you. Ask yourself one simple question: where this all starts from. Why people should feel the urgency to leave and escape from their own country to beg hospitality in other’s land. As usual: follow the money and ask yourself “cui prodest”: the answer might give you some good hints for awakening, hopefully.

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

p1030490_1

Look at the pictures of the great Escher at this Link and tell me: who is ascending and who is descending instead? I am sure 99% of you know this fabulous images, don’t you?

Anyway, let’s start from the beginning.

Why we don’t fiercly oppose to an offensive, prevaricator manager? Why we don’t bet our entire salary in one shot ? Why we don’t participate to a protest even though we share and agree upon the reason of it? The list of example may go on and on; fact is that each and every action, deed and even words we say, carry consequences to us. Interestingly enough, our thoughts have consequences too, believe it or not, in the real life….. but this might be subject for a different article.

Back to the point, whatever we do, implies and require that a question is being put and and answer is given back: WHAT IS AT STAKE.

I know that most of you are thinking that this is dull and futile as saying that sun shines or that we need to breath to stay alive; the only difference is that while these two sentences are true (just as the sun shining in the sky), the stake we put at every time we take a decision, might not be true, or might just not be what we really, deep inside want for us.

What’s at stake is a basic, fundamental, innate and unavoidable healthy mechanism in mammals (and of course in the human beings) that prevent them from being hurt or killed and, of course, help the survival and the continuation of the species. Risk assessment or risk evaluation, pro and contros, are just two of the different ways to express the same concept. Mechanism is always the same: “what happen if I do….?” “What the consequences are for the action I am about to do?”. “Fight or Flight” mechanism, as physiological expression in response of incumbent threat, could be considered as a sort of automatic, inconscious “what’s at stake”: should I flee or should I fight the threat.

Wording could be different, hearth of the matter is the same.

Hopefully, I haven’t bothered you too much because this is just the preamble, the premise I intended to do to introduce one question to you:

what if I told you that the stake we perceive and feel as being truly and really important to us is not as such? You want some example, I am sure. Here you have my two pennies on this:

A person at work, as I said at the very beginning of this article, faces an offensive, prevaricator, arrogant manager who not only gives him/her little or no recognition and reward for job done, but also behave unfairly and in an harassing manner at him/her. Now, according to the very basic and elementar facors that rule our behaviour, the situation can be pictured as follow: manager behaviour is perceived as a threat (it is probably real). The entire body of the victim, psycological and physical, get ready to respond to it accordingly.Reacting and maybe explaining to the manager that he is wrong is probably the most adequate, immediate response which should be given. Of course, the response might be depicted in many ways but the concept stays. Nowadays, most of the harrassment and violence at work are not even reported in fear of dismissal. You take this for fact, unless you can show me that all the reports available on this matter (harassing, persecution and intimidation at work) are fake or not true. The same person in a different time and place, is then asked what in his mind is more important: the dignity of the person or the work. Dignity would rank as the first shot, secondly, as opposition, answer would be “there is no dignity without work, thus I have to undergo to my manager’s behaviour or else”.

Let me make my point straight and clear: the stake that we often, when not always, perceive as being our true and authentic values and principles that matter to us, are nothing more but a deception that we all are submitted to. Deception is the mot powerful weapon  for those who rule society to enslave people so to fulfill their own greediness of money and ultimately power.

What a great chain of evidence we have in front of us: school, media and information, monetary system, religion, terrorism, immigration.

Conspiracy theory? You may think so. You don’t want evidence to support my (actually not mine only) theory…. thousands of debates would not bring any good, unless awareness is coming from inside.

One point, however, helped me quite a lot to find some answers: “Cui prodest” and “Follow the money”. I guess you do know what these two sentences are about, don’t you?

Who is taking advantage from the conflict in Syria? Who is really benefitting of thousand of refugees leaving their own countries to seek for some place where possibly survive, if not live decently? Why the bank are still there despite the horrible crimes and disaster they have caused?

I leave the options to you: forget about what I have just said to you (high probability), or take a minute to enjoy the “reading” of some important events which are happening in the world just with different eyes, if you see what I mean. Just remember one thing: manipulation is subtle, pervasive and ultimately very much effective on us. Don’t give up at first shot and give at least to yourself some time and some efforts before quitting your own investigation; and if any findings at all come up, you may still want to stay where you are and flag this as “bulls…t” conspiracy. It is up to you, of course.

Good news, as usual, is that is possible to do something; bad news is that it comes with an high price. But it is worth trying. Follow the money and whatever happens, keep asking yourself “CUI PRODEST”.

As last, not least, enjoy some pictures of the great Escher: you may want to question yourself about our own perception of reality.

Thanks for your time

Lorenzo

Permaculture and Kindergarten

oie_7165615aohcdkxv
I was lucky enough to come across with Gaye Amus last year; I haven’t actually met her face to face, unfortunately, however we exchanged some ideas over email about the Forest Kindergarten project in Europe that we are running. There is no need here to state the obvious: Gaye is an extraordinary person. Permaculture Designer (or Planner, if you wish), Gaye’s core competencies are on Children Education. I invite you to have a look at her web site at :http://www.learninginnature.org/

The article below is just a excpert of Gaye’s interview at EUPC in Bolsena (Italy) held on Sept 7th to Sept 11th, 2016. The point Gaye outlines here is that as important as Permaculture in itself, it is vital to bring Permaculture in chidren’s life since the very beginning of their childhood. CIP (Children in Permaculture) is an Erasmus project which can be exhaustively deepened either here at children in permaculture project which is the link to the CIP website and here at Permaculture Association website at permaculture org UK .

signet-ohne-namen

I can not think of any other comments or idea I may add to bring anything new to the matter.

One thing I’d love to state, though: our International Forest Kindergarten project, International Forest Kindergarten Project as well as many others, is hopefully providing his contribution to the nourishment and the promotion of the Education of our future generations in and within the Nature.

The entire article can be found at Article Permaculture in the Kindergarten by Gaye Amus . It is unfortunaltely in Italian only; however, it should not be a problem to get it translated!

(QUOTE)
